Aircraft Maintenance Engineering is the key person responsible for the upkeep of the aircraft and maintaining it to the standards of International Civil Aviation.

The total training period of the course is two years, covered in four semesters.

As on today Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, license holders are in acute shortage. Very few A.M.E. license holders are unemployed, whereas in the other technical fields there is a lot of unemployment.

Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers salary is very lucrative and very attractive perks. A.M.E.s are some of the highly paid professionals.

There is absolutely no age barrier to pass the paper and to obtain the license. There is no age limit for employment as well. In most of the companies there is no age bar for retirement. A.M.Es are in grave demand; hence licensed engineers are permitted to remain employed if they are medically fit, except in the Govt. Organizations where retirement at a particular age is mandatory. But after retirement, he/she can work as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer in the Private Sector.

Students can attend Sha-Shib Scholarship & Aptitude Test (SSAT) conducted by Sha-Shib Group to get into prestigious AME institutes across India under the organisation. Students can also avail admission at the institutions as well. There is no compulsory entrance examination or centralised examination conducted by the Government of India or the Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to admit students to AME institutes.

One must be 10+2 (PCM) to be eligible for three-year AME course approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Govt. of India, New Delhi. Once eligible, he/she is required to pass the All India Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Examination (AIAMEE). To further obtain an Aircraft Maintenance Engineering license after the completion of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering course, he/she is required to pass the A.M.E. license examination in theory and practical cum oral test conducted by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Govt. of India New Delhi, thrice in a year in February, June, and October. It is the best engineering course after 10+2.

Training Organizations, Agro Aviation, Public Sector (SAIL/ONGC), Big business having their aviation wings, State Govt. Aviation Department, National Airport Authority, National Remote Sensing Agency, Director General of Civil Aviation, Govt. of India, Coast Guard (Central Govt.), Jet Airways, Sahara Air Lines, Deccan Aviation Pvt. Limited, U.B. Airways, Jagson Air Lines, MESCO Air Lines, Private Air Taxi Operators, H.A.L. (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited), N.A.L.(National Aeronautical Laboratory), T.A.A.L. (Taneja Aerospace & Aviation Limited), Air Deccan, Kingfisher Airlines, Spice Air, etc.

If a person possessing a degree in any branch of Aeronautical Engineering desires to become an AME, he / she should have AME license issued by DGCA ( Govt. of India ) for which he/she has to acquire practical work experience as stipulated in Civil Aviation Requirements and pass the AME license papers conducted by D.G.C.A.

Till date, there is no equivalency to this course. Only those persons can become Aircraft Maintenance Engineers who have undergone training in aviation and passed the A.M.E. license examination papers conducted by D.G.C.A. (Govt. of India) which is the sole authority for issuing a license to Aircraft Maintenance Engineers and Pilots in civil aviation in India.
